Bond. James Bond. Connery. Sean Connery.
It’s hard to imagine which name has the bigger impact.
I grew up in a house where we watched James Bond. Like all of the time. I enjoyed some of them, especially Dr. No, but my dad owns all the James Bond movies on VHS, DVD and maybe Blu-ray and has watched them so many times he has the mostly memorized. I feel like James Bond, especially Sean Connery as James Bond, is implanted somewhere in my DNA.
The other series my parents watch all the time is Indiana Jones. Now this one I could get behind. I loved watching Connery as Indy’s crotchety old father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. As much as I liked Indy and his dad, my dad was a huge Sean Connery fan in general. Basically, if a movie had Sean Connery in it, my dad was watching it.
In 1988, Connery won his only Oscar for playing Jim Malone in The Untouchables. The weird thing is that I don’t know if my dad every saw that one. He was much more into The Hunt for Red October, The Highlander, The Rock, or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Sean Connery passed away on October 31 at his Nassau home while surrounded by his family. Now there is a very big Scottish hole in the world and we are shaken and stirred.
