Amanda's Best of 2024 - Fiction & Romance Edition

December 26, 2024

My last post was all about my Best of Nonfiction books for the year, but I have to be honest that I am a Fiction girl at heart. I love me a good story to help pass the time. Because I had so much trouble narrowing down my faves, today I’m sharing with you my five best fiction books AND my five fave romances. If you are traveling for New Years, you can’t go wrong with any of these.

FICTION:

I love everything I’ve read by this author. This one is no exception. Emma Wheeler has tried to be a screen writer forever. Now she has a shot, unless the guy she’s working for blows it up. If you like my favorite book last year - The Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld - you definitely don’t want to miss this one.

This is Harry Potter meets Eragon meets Divergent meets The Hunger Games. Highly enjoyable. So glad it's sequel, Iron Flame, was out so I could just keep the story going. Can’t wait for the third installment - Onyx Storm, coming in January 2025. Get your hold on a copy today!

This is the second book in the The Cinder Spires series (following The Aeronaut's Windlass). It took me a minute to get into this one b/c it’s been almost a decade since the first one came out. But once I did, I didn’t want to put the book down. My favorite part was the Cat Tribes. Read it. You’ll see.

I am late to the Romantasy category and I have to say that the first book in this series, A Court of Thorn and Roses did nothing to convince me. This second book, however, A Court of Mist and Fury, totally converted me. I loved the characters, it twisted in ways that I did not expect, and now I’m an in it to win it when it comes to Fantasy Romance (get it - Romantasy).

This was a fun little read about the magic of healing food. You can follow it up with her related book, A Recipe for a Charmed Life. Both should give you all the good feels.

ROMANCE:

There are a lot of hockey books on the market right, but this one is by far my fave. A little bit of hockey and some very likable characters. Just start at the beginning and go as far as you can. I read the first two books in this series in less than a day. The third one just came out, so I definitely need to get caught up. Vancouver Storm series for the win!

Cute cats and cute guys…how can that be bad? Don’t be fooled, though, there is some depth here as well. Highly enjoyable series that’s dare I say…purrfect? Follow up this gem with Finding Mr. Purrfect.

The band! The kids are putting the band back together but the moms aren’t having any of it. Great characters, fun story line -get ready to party like its 1999.

This one was a little racier than I expected, but I really enjoyed this characters. A lot of times the MCs fight because they hide parts of themselves from each other. In this case, they were very honest and communicative from the beginning, which I thought was refreshing.

This book contains two of my favorite things - royalty romance and cooking. Prince Michel is trying to find love before he takes the throne. Emma just wants to open her own culinary school. Some great characters and a great story that I got sucked into.

Alrighty friends. I hope that you enjoy my favorites as much as I did. Also, I really hope that 2025 is a better year. Fingers double and triple crossed (ouch!)...

Happy reading for a blessed new year…
:) Amanda
