I love the Olympics. I love the Olympics so much that I tried to convince my husband to be President just so I could get a free ticket as the First Lady cuz one time I saw Jill Biden in the crowd. So far, no dice. And if I had to pick a favorite, I’d choose the Winter Games over Summer in a heartbeat. I like downhill skiing, I watch the moguls even though just the sight makes my knees hurt, give me bobsled and luge, curling, and of course, figure skating. Girls, boys, pairs, and ice dance. I enjoy them all, but there is just something extra classy about ice dancing that keeps me coming back.
So when I heard that there was a new book coming out about the perils of Olympic Ice Dancing, I got my hold in right away. Unfortunately, everybody else thought it sounded like a great read too, so I had to wait a little. Just like with the real thing. But once my hold came in, I was in it to win it.
Ok, basic premise - Katarina Shaw and Heath Rocha are two kids from the wrong side of the tracks who somehow manage to battle their way into the world of elite ice dancing. And into each other’s hearts. They have all the chemistry needed to sell their dancing, but they are, perhaps, a little too rebellious on the ice. Think more Tanya Harding.
Enter their biggest rivals and closest friends, the Linn twins, Bella and Garrett. Think Nancy Kerrigan. Their mother Sheila earned her ice dancing gold medal and is ready for her children to follow in her footsteps. When Bella asks her mom to train Shaw and Rocha alongside her and her brother, you know that the drama is gonna happen.
I really enjoyed this one. It was a great way to get warmed up for the upcoming Winter Games in Italy. After reading such a captivating story, I can’t wait to watch the real thing. If you are a fan of the Olympics, this one is for you. Then check out the titles below for more Olympic fame and glory. Oh - and vote for my husband for president so I can go to the Olympics! (just kidding, but seriously…)
Happy Team USA-ing!
