Thanks to investments by Mayor O’Connell, Metro Council, and the people of Nashville — and with additional support through the Nashville Public Library Foundation — we’re planning together, building together, and growing together to make a world-class library system that will inspire and educate for years to come. • Community spaces that are welcoming, environmentally friendly, and equipped with resources to meet our customers’ needs.
• Support for one-of-a-kind library programs that are transforming our city, including Limitless Libraries, Nashville Education, Community, and Arts Television (NECAT), Nashville After Zone Alliance (NAZA), Adult Literacy, and Nashville Talking Library.
• A library collection that is wide-ranging and thoughtfully curated (with your input!) by our knowledgeable librarians — and filled with things you might never expect.

Growing for the Future: New Facilities and Current Projects

New Donelson

Since opening in June 2024, Donelson Branch Library has quickly established itself as a site for learning, community, and connection. Read how one Donelson family, the Shorters, has found a home away from home at the branch. 

Green Hills

Renovation is underway at Green Hills Branch Library. More than 600 people participated in the public input phase of this project to share ideas for a transformed Green Hills branch — and the renovation includes improvements the community has called for, such as a new children’s area, additional meeting spaces, and more.

Richland Park

We are excited to begin designing a new facility for Richland Park — a treasured community space for discovery and learning in West Nashville. More than 700 people took part in our March 2026 community survey and input sessions. Next up: architects will incorporate that input into the new library’s design.

Hadley Park

We’re taking first steps toward developing a vision for a new Hadley Park Branch Library, and we look forward to working with community members to create a vibrant neighborhood meeting place in North Nashville.

Millions of Books and Materials to Borrow 

The NPL collection of more than 2 million books and materials unites us all. In a city as curious and creative as this one, this collection offers something for everyone.
Print books, comics, and children’s books.
New releases, best-sellers, classics, and series.
Large-print formats, resources for English Language Learners, and materials for adults who are improving their reading or even reading for the first time.
Curriculum kits to support educators.
Book-clubs-in-a-bag, vinyl records, the largest lending musical instrument collection in the nation, and an assortment of games, household items, health gadgets, and tools known as the Library of Things.
NPL ended Fiscal Year 2025 with more than 7 million checkouts, and Mayor O’Connell and Metro have invested historic amounts of funding into growing and maintaining the type of modern, wide-ranging collection that Nashville wants and deserves.
