Must Travel With Books

July 30, 2019

I'm going on a trip with my family this weekend-the entire crew. My mom and dad, my brother and sister, and all of our significant others. Plus, all the kids.

Books have always been a pretty big deal between my mom, sister, and me, so naturally, when we all travel together, we're also planning for what everyone is going to read. Now, since we are going camping this time, my mom had the idea to order a bunch of camping books in all the kids' favorite characters: Peppa Pig, Llama Llama, Curious George, and so on. Since this isn't something we've all done before, we figured it was a good thing to read books about camping with characters that we love, so that we know what's going on and what to expect. The books sometimes even give rules that we should follow, depending on what we are doing.[[nid:5390]][[nid:5391]]

The next part is to ask each of the kids what their current favorite character is. We have Thomas the Train, Paw Patrol, Dora the Explorer, My Little Pony, and we also let them pick subjects that they might want to read about, so we've ordered books about mermaids, unicorns, tractors, cats, and a million other topics. Needless to say, auntie is bringing a very large library bag full of books to the campsite. There is something for everyone to read, and there is plenty of it. Encouraging reading in all facets of life, and bringing it into an exciting trip like this makes your children see that reading isn't just for school or because you have to. When we go to the library to pick out books for a trip or to learn something new, we are teaching our children to use their local library as they get older to learn all they can learn. Reading can be SO much fun-if you let them pick out their characters and tops. When we give children an option (even when it's between one thing or another), they feel empowered, like they have some control over what they are reading, which makes it that much easier to have a good time. Enjoy your summer reading, and make sure to sign up for our Summer Challenge so you can earn prizes as well-all the MORE exciting!
