Picture Books for Filipino American History Month

October 7, 2026

October is Filipino American History Month! First celebrated by the Filipino American National Historical Society in 1992 and officially recognized by Congress in 2009, Filipino American Heritage Month, or FAHM, "honors the history, pursuits, accomplishments, and legacy of Filipinos in the United States."

Reading and sharing books, of course, is a great way to bring FAHM home and to the classroom. We've rounded up some great picture book fiction and nonfiction titles available at Nashville Public Library. Included in our collection are:

A book about a favorite food.

A book about moving to a new place.

A book about visiting back home.

A book about a special connection with a grandparent.

And a picture book of anthology of favorite traditional stories.

For more Filipino American History Month picture book titles available at NPL, take a look at the catalog widget above. If you are interested in resources for use in the classroom, check out this guide from Teach Asian American Stories. Google Arts & Culture has made available an interactive multimedia guide celebrating Filipino American History Month, highlighting important moments and contributions from Filipino Americans.

If middle grades and young adult books are more your fare, our staff at Library Concierge are  ready to help you find the books you need for FAHM. We may be bringing special attention to books featuring Filipino Americans this month, but remember that books for heritage and history months are good for every day of the year.
