By in large, I am not a fan of super hero movies. I mean, how many of them do we really need? So when my husband asked me to go see this movie called Deadpool, I passed. Then he showed me the trailer and I was so in! Who was this snarky guy in the weird red suit who always said the most inappropriate, hilarious things? Where had he been all my life?
So the movie was tots awesome and if you haven’t seen it, you need to get your name on the holds list right now! But then what? I wanted more Deadpool.
Must. Have. More. Deadpool. I needs it. The preciousssssssss…
Ok. Sorry, I’m back. Did you know that, like most super heroes, Deadpool was a comic before he was a movie? Shocking right? And better yet, the library has some. Woot! I’ve been going through them, but sometimes it can be challenging since I’m so late to Deadpool game. But recently I found what may be my favorite comic of all time: Deadpool Killustrated.
So Deadpool is a mercenary who likes to kill stuff. He’s also very aware that he is a fictional character in a comic book. In order to make everything go away, he sets off on this crazy quest to kill all the major fiction characters so that he can free everyone from their fictitious lives. It’s too much work to be at the beck and call of crazy writers all the time and he wants out.
Deadpools “visits” (read: kills) Don Quixote, The Pequod, Tom Sawyer, and Dracula to name a few, but my favorite was when he made a stop in Concord, Massachusetts and blew up the four sisters of the Alcott family. That was cool.
The characters begin to realize that something is up, so they enlist Sherlock Holmes (of course), Beowulf, and Hua Mulan to stop all of Deadpool’s fun. Will they succeed or will Deadpool finally get to kill everything?
So watch the movie, pick up a graphic novel – whatever you do, make sure you get some Deadpool today! I’m sure he’ll be happy to see you.
Happy Deadpooling…
:) Amanda
