Our top picks for books about baseball.

Baseball season is in full swing! (Pun intended.)

So if the sport has your interest, check out some of our favorite books about baseball. Be sure to log your reading with our Nashville Public Library Summer Challenge!

An enjoyable read, Goodnight Baseball by Michael Dahl is a rhyming book that highlights the game, baseball lingo and traditions that surround the sport: hot dogs, sitting in the stands, catching a fly ball, and late night innings.

Baseball Hour by Carol Nevius paints a realistic picture of what warm-up drills and practice look like in baseball. With rhyming words and simple illustrations, this book is a solid choice.

Home Run: The Story of Babe Ruth by Robert Burleigh is all about one of baseball's greatest legends. A great choice for a variety of ages, this book has simple sentences at the top and more information about Babe at the bottom. In addition to the beautiful illustrations and short sentences, the words have a poetic feel and paint a beautiful picture of what baseball was like years ago.

Take Me out to the Yakyu by Aaron Meshon is my favorite children's book about baseball! A young boy experiences two baseball games, each with a different grandfather. One grandfather is in America, the other in Japan. This book delightfully highlights the different cultural traditions, launguage and norms while also conveying a shared appreciation for the sport.

Enjoy learning the timeless lyrics to America's favorite baseball tune in Take Me out to the Ballgame by Jack Norworth. If you don't know the words, need to refresh your memory, or want to help a young reader learn the melody, this book is your best bet!
