Online weather classes with NWS Nashville

March 29, 2020

Calling all weather nerds! Free online classes about cool weather stuff!

Hello friends.

I'm coming to you live from my house. Where I've been for 13 days now. Am I getting bored yet?

Absolutely not. Why not, you ask?

Because I've found this great way to entertain myself in the evening.

Our local office of the National Weather Service is offerring all kinds of free classes to help pass the time. So far I've taken classes on Storm Spotting, The North American Monsoon, and Severe Thunderstorms - the latter of which was far and away my favorite so far. They've still got a couple more weeks in their Spring offerrings, so be sure to check them out. I'm particularly excited about this week's QLCS class and I heard that the final class in two weeks  - The Radar - is going to do a little deep diving into our recent March 3 tornado. (Squeee!) Classes usually start around 6:30 or 7 and go for roughly an hour. I also heard a rumor that they are considering adding some classes during the day in April, since most of us are just home hanging out. Stay tuned to see how this plays out. UPDATE: They did it. Check out the new schedule here. They added an 11 AM class, in addition to the 7 PM classes that were already scheduled. Thanks NWS Nashville!

Classes are free, but you do have to register, which you can do here. (Bascially, you just give them your email address and they send you the link to the class.)

I've always wanted to take these classes, but I'm usually so busy I don't have time. Now that I have nothing but time, you can bet I'm taking advantage of every one I can.
If you're any kind of a weather nerd, these are a great way to spend an hour.

Check these out!

Happy geeking out...
