Children's Books About Butts

April 7, 2026

Yes, you read that correctly. This blog post is about butts.

∗GASP∗

Whatever your favorite developmentally appropriate, kid-friendly euphemism—rear end, bottom, posterior, tushy, etc., et al—butts are funny. And kids love funny. Especially if it allows them to be a little cheeky (pun not intended) and mischievous. So unclutch your pearls (if you've done so—but perhaps I'm being unfair) and check out these funny and even informative books about butts!

A note before we begin: for your family, certain words may be more appropriate to use than others. Parents have a right to form and shape their children as they see fit. Books are a great way to start a conversation about what words to use where and when. Also: teaching children accurate terminology for body parts makes for more confident and safer children

The fourth and latest book in the now very popular series Butt or Face series, Ador-a-butts! brings a new crew of adorable animals to make readers ask the question: are we looking at an animal's face, or its butt? Full color photographs and fun animal facts make this yet another standout nonfiction text for young readers.

We've all heard the playground joke before. But in this book, it is charmingly brought to life with repetition, rhyme, and plenty of opportunities for silliness. The call and response format makes it perfect for a fun-filled read aloud.

A walk to school becomes a hilarious dialogue about what has and doesn't have a butt in Does a Bulldozer Have a Butt? In addition to being funny (be sure to pay attention to the illustrations!), this book models how adults should deal with children's questions: with patience, forthrightness, and enthusiasm. Frequent questions demonstrate that a child is curious about the world around and wants to learn new things. This is a good thing.

For a list of more funny books about butts, check out the list above. We've put together a whole list that you can check out from our collection. While books about body parts or bodily functions may not be your particular brand of humor, they may very well be your child's. It's always recommended to let children follow their own interests when it comes to choosing what to read. Within those interests, librarians can always help you find age-appropriate books that are just right for your family.
