Waste Not! Want Not!

Learn how to save food, save money, and reduce your family's carbon footprint...

There seem to be a lot of books out there on how to shop smarter and save money. From coupons to monthly meal plans, everyone has their favorite idea about the best way to maximize kitchen output and minimize expenses. For me, a lot of this just seems like white noise. Some of it is either overly simplistic or sometimes the author talks in theoretical ideas instead of realistic events.

This book is different.

I'm always interested in how to save money and this seems especially applicable in the kitchen. In this country, we are so incredible wasteful that it's almost hard to fathom. Not only does this book offer helpful tips to save money, but it also shows how we can reduce our carbon footprint which will help make the world a better place.

The book is broken up into sections with strategies for appropriate food storage, an honest discussion about those mysterious "Sell By/Use By" dates, and then a directory for the best way to maximize utilization of various food items. There is also a brief section with a handful of recipes to help use up some of those questionable produce items in the bottom of your fridge.

I really liked this book. I thought it was straightforward and helpful. If you are looking for a way to organize your kitchen to best use what you've got and maybe save a few pennies here and there, you need to check this one out.

Happy reading :)
